Media Evening – 2025: an evening of talent, emotions, and student unity
This year’s Media Evening took place on October 30 and, as usual, became a real autumn event that will be remembered for a long time by students and teachers of the journalism department.
The first talent show was held in 2022 and was initiated by fourth-year students as part of the “PR as a Profession” course. The idea quickly grew from an informal student event into a real tradition. For the fourth year in a row, both students and teachers eagerly await this event.
This year, the media evening was organized by fourth-year students majoring in Advertising and Public Relations. They took on the coordination of the event – from developing the concept and script to preparing the performances and decorating the hall. They held it as part of the Speechwriting course. And since the event took place on the eve of Halloween, the atmosphere was appropriate: the students wore festive costumes, creating a terrifyingly beautiful atmosphere.
From the very first minutes of the evening, it became clear that this would be a real talent show. The hosts were third-year advertising students Valeria Borokhovska and Veronika Tovtin. Young people from all bachelor’s degree courses performed on stage, and each act had its own unique flavor. There was dancing, singing, skits, jokes, magic tricks, and videos. The atmosphere of a spooky holiday was felt in every performance—emotions, creativity, and genuine student drive filled the hall.
Head of the Department Yevhen Solomin recalled how Media Evenings began – with an assignment from Associate Professor Natalia Tolochko as part of the course “PR as a Profession.” The idea could have ended up just on paper, but thanks to the students who willingly supported the organization of the talent show, it has become a good tradition that has been bringing together different generations of journalists for the fourth year in a row.
A pleasant bonus of the holiday was that the participating students received certificates with 5 additional points to their rating in one selected subject. But the most important reward was the emotions, applause, and support of the audience.
This year’s costume contest was also special. The young people transformed themselves into movie characters and famous personalities and created their own unique images. The best costumes were awarded to first-year students Daria Vanzha, Anastasia Volkova, and Valery Getmantsev, who were dressed as grandfathers, and fourth-year students Maxim Galashko in a Hannibal Lecter costume, Daria Maksimova as the dead bride, and Alina Protasova, who transformed into the Red Queen from Lewis Carroll’s fairy tale.
The talent show was special for the first-year students, who had the opportunity to show their creativity and feel how united the media community is.
